After Rev. Atherton opened the meeting with prayer, the Council worked to plan September’s worship services. Kick-off Sunday on September 10 will focus on the Church School with Gary Gumuchian preaching. Mission Outreach has planned a speaker from Operation Christmas Child to speak during the service on September 17. Jen Goltsberg, chair of Mission Outreach, will speak to the missions planned for the year, emphasizing that we are a mission-oriented church. September 24 will be devoted to the Garden at Church Meadows, Food is Love, and the Neighborhood Supper.
Rich Harrington reported on the progress of the Interim Search Committee. The committee has received two profiles to date. The first did not seem to be a good fit for our church and the second profile is being kept on file. The committee reached out to Rev. Kelly Gallagher from the Central Association for additional profiles. In the meantime, the committee will work to discover “who we are,” looking at the church’s history. The committee will report the findings in a meaningful way to the congregation.
In preparation for the Interim Minister and then the Settled Pastor, there is the need to reconcile minutes from Congregational meetings and Council meetings. In addition, the membership list needs to be brought up to date. Rich is working with the office personnel to clean up computer files, as the office should be the central up-to-date repository for all files.
An update on the changes that need to be made to the parking lot will be discussed at the September 14 meeting. In addition, the Council will begin discussions about the staff structure moving forward, as well as discussions about whether to sell, or keep, the parsonage in preparation for a new settled pastor.
